About me

Hi, it's me, the founder of Chercán Project. My name is Valentina Ferrada Aguilar, but you can call me Vale.

I am from Santiago, Chile, South America. I've lived all my life in Santiago, until a few months ago when I came with my family to live in the United States, in the beautiful city of Washington DC.

"Chercán" is the spanish word for Wren. Chercán is the bird that I like the most, because it's very small but super hard-working and resilient. It weighs only 12 grams and its song is strong. I think we have a lot in common with that little bird.

After graduating from high school, I spent three years studying Journalism. But, I have always loved designing and creating things with my hands, that's why I felt something was missing for me in Journalism, so I dared to quit and signed up to study Industrial Design. It was the best decision I've ever made, now I'm proudly an Industrial Designer by profession.

At the University I had a ceramics class, with a great professor who I will always remember because he kindly taught me many things that sparked this journey. It was then that I began to fall in love with pottery.

At the end of 2018, Chercán Project began to come to life and in March of 2019 I launched the first jewelry collection. Some time later, I started selling my ceramics in two stores on one of the best-known avenues in Santiago, Chile.

Today, in addition to make ceramics, I participate as a volunteer at the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (CHAW) in Capitol Hill, DC. teaching ceramic jewelry, among other things.

Teaching has been one of the most important things for me. It's very rewarding to share with others what I know and, through teaching, I also learn a lot.
